“This is truly remarkable,” remarked O’Neal, who saw his jersey retired for the third time by an NBA team, following the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. “This one took me by surprise. Beginning my career here, dedicating myself, spending four years playing here, and being honored in this manner, this will likely be the most meaningful one.”

“Orlando will forever occupy a special place in my heart. I will always take pride in being associated with the Magic franchise… I owe gratitude to my teammates. Without them, there would be no me,” O’Neal expressed during a ceremony where the Magic lifted his No. 32 jersey to the rafters of the Kia Center.

Marking their 35th NBA season, the Magic selected O’Neal as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft.

O’Neal, aged 51, played for the Magic from 1992 to 1996 before joining the Lakers.

“Shaq elevated the Orlando Magic to prominence,” noted Magic CEO Alex Martins, further stating, “The groundwork for his illustrious career began right here in Orlando during his initial four seasons. Every accolade and award he attained throughout his career originated here.”

During his time with Orlando, O’Neal averaged 27.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game across 295 regular-season games.

He was selected as an NBA All-Star four times while representing the Magic.

O’Neal later secured four NBA championships, including three consecutive titles with the Lakers from 2000 to 2002 and one with the Miami Heat in 2006.

The 15-time All-Star is a prominent figure both on and off the basketball court, having made appearances in various media platforms such as movies, video games, commercials, and talk shows.
