EXCLUSIVE: Ravens favorite to sign top notch RB amid interest from Chargers

After Austin Ekeler asked for a trade last season, the Los Angeles Chargers were able to retain him because they added nearly $2 million in incentives to his 2023 deal last summer. According to Bet Online, the Baltimore Ravens are the favorites to sign the running back if Ekeler decides to leave Los Angeles.

Austin Ekeler projected to leave Chargers for worst possible team in free agency

In the event that the gifted running back is not retained by the Chargers, the Ravens are currently +500 to sign him. The Philadelphia Eagles are +600 behind the Ravens, followed by the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos at +700.

With JK Dobbins sidelined for much of the previous season due to injuries, the Ravens went to a committee approach at running back. Vegas is undoubtedly anticipating Baltimore’s search for a running back. Not only is the team the favorite to sign Alvin Kamara should he decide not to play for the New Orleans Saints in the upcoming season, but also Ekeler should he decide to go.

The Saints have Kamara under contract through 2026. In order to add the running back to the roster, the Ravens would need to make a trade for him, barring an unexpected release. Kamara might be a valuable addition to New Orleans’ attack as they aim for a postseason berth. Despite being $83 million over the cap, they have the least amount of cap room in the league. A trade would restore important draft capital while easing some of the cap pressure.

It is probably more realistic for the Ravens to move for Ekeler. Whatever the team chooses to do, it’s obvious that if they hope to contend for a Super Bowl the following season, they will need to provide Lamar Jackson with some offensive support.
