Patrick Casey of Charlton Athletic has apparently piqued the interest of both Brighton and Celtic following his League One debut last month. According to Football Insider, Robert de Zerbi and Brendan Rodgers may engage in a summer transfer competition following Casey’s first-team debut against Oxford.

The young Irishman scored 42 goals for the club’s U18 and U21 squads last season and has 31 goals in all competitions this season (2023/24).

According to sources, Brighton and Celtic are not the only teams looking for the goal-scoring star, with Belgian clubs Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Brugge also interested.

The 18-year-old has not only sparked transfer chaos, but he is also expected to cause an international schism, with the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and England all vying for his talents on a global scale. Casey was nominated to the Republic of Ireland’s U-19 squad for a summer training camp in June 2023, but he may still switch allegiance if he wants to play for Gareth Southgate in the future.

After rising through the ranks with the south London club, Casey signed a three-year contract with The Valley in 2023.

Brighton, a Premier League club, has gained a reputation in recent years for fostering young talent, with Casey’s countryman Evan Ferguson rising to prominence for his goal-scoring abilities. The club has also become a highly sought destination, with players like as Alexis MacAllister and Moises Caicedo benefiting greatly from their relocation to the south coast of England.
