The NBA team’s own ‘Detroit Pistons World’ will include a virtual fan marketplace, themed games, goods for purchase, gated material, and other features available to Pistons fans.

The Pistons’ Vice President of Business Intelligence, Adam Falkson, said, “We are pleased to welcome MeetKai as our newest partner.

“This agreement is part of our ongoing efforts to make the Detroit Pistons one of the most innovative and fan-friendly sports and entertainment organizations in the business. MeetKai is an ideal partner for us on this journey.”

Using MeetKai’s technology, the browser-based virtual fan marketplace will be an exact digital copy of the physical team store at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

The online marketplace will feature the same merchandise as the store, as well as collectibles and clothing items available for purchase that can be used by the customer’s virtual avatar or shipped home to be worn in person, with new content and merchandise added throughout the season.

“Both MeetKai and the Detroit Pistons are overjoyed about this collaboration. We’re getting started on the ‘Detroit Pistons World,’ and we couldn’t be more excited to provide its fans with a never-before-seen, virtual experience unlike any other,” said James Kaplan, CEO and Co-Founder of MeetKai.

“This world will not only expand and extend basketball fandom into new realms, but be a special opportunity for the Pistons to reach new audiences globally in new ways.”

Additionally, the AI firm’s avatar customization solution will be used in the ‘Detroit Pistons World’, which works by users registering an account and uploading a selfie to allow MeetKai to design an avatar face for them.

After creating the avatar, players can change elements such as body type, hair styles, and accessories, as well as choose standard and Pistons-themed apparel items to wear, as well as any digital merchandise purchased anywhere in the world, as previously indicated.

Weili Dai, MeetKa’s Executive Chairwoman and Co-Founder, commented, “We’re extremely proud of MeetKai’s cutting-edge AI technology and how it’s been adopted so quickly by the sports industry.”

Following the arrangement, the Detroit Pistons became the second NBA team to collaborate with MeetKai, following the Charlotte Hornets, who signed an agreement with the tech startup in 2023.

More recently, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) announced the launch of a metaverse experience in collaboration with MeetKai, which launched on February 15 during All-Star Weekend.

Dai said, “It’s a testament to our technology’s differentiators and their impact on the consumer experience, providing fans with new ways to gain value and experience the teams and players they care about.” We look forward to growing our product line and continuing to provide superior solutions to this and other sectors around the world in 2024.”
