South Sudan's 16 y/o NBA prospect Maluach soaks in FIBA WC experience

The top international recruit in the 2024 class, Khaman Maluach, has committed to the Duke Blue Devils. The 7-foot-2 center was born in South Sudan and attended the NBA Africa Academy. He was recruited by the country’s most famous schools, including Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, and UCLA, as well as the G League Ignite.

Maluach is not simply one of the top players outside of the United States. When compared to those in America, he is among the top performers in 2024.

Maluach will receive his 247Sports ranking and five-star designation now that he has decided which institution to attend.

Maluach’s pledge is a significant step for Jon Scheyer’s intentions for 2024-25, given Kyle Filipowski’s planned exit following the season.

Maluach will offer outstanding size, athleticism, length, and talent to Duke’s frontcourt, giving the team a big man who can move his feet, bring energy, switch on defense, guard the rim, and score inside and out on offense.

He is an excellent complement to Duke’s top signee Cooper Flagg, and the two will form a very effective tandem on both ends of the floor.

Maluach first appeared in the NBA Africa Academy as a freshman, when Scheyer, then a Duke assistant, evaluated him and saw him from a young age.

Since that early review, Duke has kept an eye on Maluach and has been closely involved in his recruitment throughout the previous year. The Blue Devils took an early lead and never looked back.

Malauch is an instant impact recruit who is projected to be a lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Maluach will join the top-ranked class in 2024, which already includes Flagg, Isaiah Evans, Kon Knueppel, Patrick Ngongba II, and Darren Harris.
