JUST IN: Portsmouth summer signing hit with new injury setback

Portsmouth winger Anthony Scully’s expected return has been postponed due to an ankle injury sustained during training, according to John Mousinho.

Anthony Scully: Portsmouth sign winger from Wigan Athletic - BBC Sport

Portsmouth signed Irish forward Scully from Wigan Athletic this summer. He’d had a difficult time with the Latics after excelling for Lincoln City, but his time at Fratton Park hasn’t been much easier.

He had knee surgery in August before experiencing another setback early this year. As a result, Scully has only played six minutes of League One football in 2024 and has not been included in a matchday team since January 27th.

The 26-year-old had hoped to return in the coming weeks, but Pompey manager Mousinho acknowledged the winger’s latest setback in an interview with The News.

Mousinho reveals that Scully suffered an ankle injury during training and, while it is minor, he has had to miss training. He said:

“Anthony had a minor injury to his ankle last week.

“It’s a small knock, which is obviously unfortunate given his injury history this year, but it’s nothing serious. It’s a knock to the ankle caused by impact during training. He is now back on the grass, and we expect him to resume full training next week.
