Done Deal: Just IN Cincinnati Bengals Confirm To Reach Contract Agreement For Another Experienced Star

After a circuitous NFL career, Trent Brown has found himself in Cincinnati.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that the veteran tackle intends to sign a one-year contract with the Bengals, citing a source. The signing was later announced by the team.

On Tuesday, Brown will go to Cincinnati, where he will replace Jonah Williams as Joe Burrow’s right tackle.

After being selected in the seventh round by the San Francisco 49ers, Brown played for nine years in the NFL before being traded to New England, signing a lucrative four-year contract with the Raiders, and then rejoining the Patriots. Although he has played a variety of roles with the Patriots, he has had difficulty staying healthy for the majority of the previous five seasons, failing to log 600 snaps in four of them.

Pro Football Focus reports that despite his health issues, Brown has performed well when he has been available, placing 11th overall in offensive grade in 2023.

Brown has played both tackle positions in recent years, demonstrating his ability to fill a team’s need at multiple spots. This has made him a desirable option for the Bengals, who have Orlando Brown Jr. at left tackle, solving their left tackle problem. However, Burrow needed a reliable blocker opposite him to keep him upright after an injury ultimately ended his 2023 season.

Regarding his versatility as a tackle, Brown stated, “That’s what I do best,” according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. It seems to be the reason I’m here. There isn’t another tackle in the league or in a football game that can do that more effectively than me. In that sense, my skill set is distinct.”

Since Brown will turn 31 in April, the Bengals’ acquisition of him is merely a stopgap measure until 2024. However, the Bengals are a fantastic fit for both sides because they are a team focused on winning right now.
