Breaking News: Just In Atlanta Falcons Top Sensational Star Just Announced His Departure

The NFL free agency class is still being added by the New England Patriots.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Thursday, the Patriots have signed safety Jaylinn Hawkins, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers, to a one-year deal.

Hawkins, a 2020 University of California standout selected in the fourth round of the draft, made 16 starts for the Falcons in 2022 while racking up 84 tackles, two interceptions, and six pass breakups. But after being cut by the Falcons in October 2023, he played his last games for the Chargers, mostly in a special teams capacity, recording just 11 tackles in 10 games, including three starts.

The Patriots safety group now consists of Joshuah Bledsoe, Marte Mapu, and Jabrill Peppers. The 26-year-old Hawkins joins them. Kyle Dugger was also given the transition tag by New England, which gives the team the authority to match any free agent offer Dugger gets.

With his versatility on special teams, Hawkins appears more like a depth addition. If Dugger signs elsewhere after the Patriots cut Adrian Phillips earlier this spring, the team will be lacking at the position. Therefore, the rumored arrival of Hawkins may indicate that New England intends to retain Dugger and start him alongside Peppers at safety.

Under de facto general manager Eliot Wolf, the Patriots have signed nine outside free agents, including Hawkins. For a detailed breakdown of all of their movements, view the tracker below.
