Just In: Seattle Seahawks Have Completed The Signing Of Another Dallas Cowboys Top Experience Sensational

The Dallas Cowboys have lost another free agent this summer, as veteran defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, ending his two-year stay in Dallas.

Hankins will reunite with former Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde, who currently serves as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator under new head coach Mike MacDonald.

Hankins was acquired in the middle of the 2022 season in exchange for a sixth-round pick, and he appeared in 19 games for the Cowboys over two seasons, recording 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, and three sacks. His only absence from the field came in December 2023, when he suffered an ankle injury and missed three games. His presence would be badly missed by the Dallas defensive front, which lost two of those three games while allowing an average of 160.7 running yards per game.

You’ve seen what the Cowboys’ run defense looks like with and without Hankins, so any consideration of re-signing him would have made a lot of sense for Dallas.

Since joining the Cowboys via trade in October 2022, the veteran, big-bodied nose tackle has reminded them of what it means to have an interior defensive lineman eating up double teams and being a brick wall that stops running backs in their tracks; and he’s ultimately the reason they decided to use a first-round pick on Mazi Smith — a reminder of the benefits of valuing the position.

Hankins was generally resurgent in 2023, going so far as to record two sacks, demonstrating his ability to put pressure on passers. Hankins expressed a desire to stay in Dallas for a third season, but it was not to be, as the 31-year-old left for pastures that were actually greener.

Hankins is the seventh Cowboys free agent to find a new team this offseason, following defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong (Commanders), running back Tony Pollard (Titans), center Tyler Biadasz (Commanders), defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. (Commanders), defensive tackle Neville Gallimore (Dolphins), and offensive tackle Tyron Smith (Jets). The Cowboys have signed three free agents: cornerback Jourdan Lewis, cornerback/special teams standout C.J. Goodwin, and long snapper Trent Sieg. The Cowboys have signed Eric Kendricks, an outside free agency.
