According to a source, Louis Rees-Zammit, a European rugby player, has agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs, providing the team with another attacking threat.

Rees-Zammit will be evaluated by the Chiefs for the positions of wide receiver and running back. With the NFL’s new kickoff style, his largest immediate effect might be on special teams, especially as a return specialist.

The 23-year-old Rees-Zammit declared in January that he will try to play in the NFL. He ran a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash last week at the NFL’s International Player Pathway pro day. After that, the Wales-born Rees-Zammit visited a few teams before settling on a contract with the Chiefs.

For the first time, a foreign player will receive a dedicated 17th roster position on the practice squad for each team this season. In order to give players more chances to improve and get into games, teams may also promote an international practice squad member to the active roster up to three times in a season.

A qualified international player is also granted one roster exemption during training camp.

Bleacher Report broke the story of Rees-Zammit’s deal with the Chiefs first.
