The Phoenix Suns have yet to meet preseason expectations. Even after Wednesday’s terrific win over the reigning champion Denver Nuggets, Phoenix remains eighth in the Western Conference rankings. Despite this, Grayson Allen has been a great addition to the team.

Allen, now in his sixth season, was part of a three-team transaction that took him to Phoenix this offseason. The 28-year-old has appeared in all 67 Suns games this season, starting every one.

Wednesday was the day when the Suns became eligible to give Allen a contract extension.

Suns Sharpshooter Now Eligible For Contract Extension

How Much is Allen Eligible to Make on an Extension?

Grayson Allen may now sign a contract extension with Phoenix for up to four years and $75 million. That represents a significant boost from the two-year, $18.7 million contract he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2022.

Allen was selected 21st overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, and his prospective agreement would be worth $18.75 million per year on average. According to Spotrac, that would be the 80th highest wage in the 2023-24 season.

Allen is eligible for a contract extension through June 30, when league free agency begins. If the sharpshooter could enter the free agent market in a three-point happy league, he would be in high demand.

Allen Having a Career-Best Season for Phoenix

As previously stated, Allen has started every game for the Suns in 2023-24. In 33.7 minutes per game, the 6-foot-4 guard averages 13.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. All of those totals are career highs, including the minutes.

These stats do not reflect Allen’s shooting accuracy. He has tried 5.8 three-pointers per game. Allen has connected on 47.8% of them. That accuracy tops the NBA, with Luke Kennard of the Memphis Grizzlies in second place at 45.4%. He has made the 19th most threes this season, despite only attempting the 43rd most.

Allen is also shooting at a career high from inside the arc (56.7%).

Is he a Still-Ascending Player?

Grayson Allen is not only recording career-high numbers this season, but he has also maintained his career trend. In his rookie season with the Utah Jazz in 2018-19, Allen averaged 10.9 minutes per game. His playing time has increased with each subsequent season.

Allen will turn 29 on October 8. A four-year extension would pay the Duke graduate until the age of 32. With salaries always growing, Allen’s contract could look like a bargain if he stays on his current path.

Allen’s success on the court is prompting fewer and fewer people to believe the narrative that he is a dirty player, which dates back to his time at Duke.

Allen has made 331 regular-season appearances (238 starts) for the Jazz, Grizzlies, Bucks, and Suns. Allen’s career averages in 25.5 minutes per game are 10.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, with 41.4% of his three-point attempts made.
