Breaking News: Jon Scheyer fires strong warning to Duke players and critics

Duke coach Jon Scheyer praised the program’s growth following a dismal Elite Eight loss that left many supporters dissatisfied.

Scheyer’s Blue Devils lost 76-64 to NC State on Sunday, a disappointing result in a game in which Duke led by six points at halftime. Despite this, Scheyer expressed optimism about the program’s current situation, noting that a Final Four berth was not even a guarantee when he played for Mike Krzyzewski.

“Where is our program now? “I believe our program has never been stronger,” Scheyer told reporters, according to John Watson of 247 Sports. “We’re about 20 minutes away from advancing to the Final Four in our second year. I don’t mind our expectations or what we want to do, but that’s not how I’m thinking right now. I am just crying for these guys right now. A tough loss.

“Throughout my time at Duke, I’ve always found motivation in the events that occurred. Some of the most sad experiences in my career occurred at Duke. We did not attend a Sweet 16 until my junior year. We didn’t make it to the Final Four or the national championship until my senior year.”

On the one hand, Scheyer has performed admirably as a rookie coach taking over for a legend in Krzyzewski. After a second-round exit last year, the club advanced to the Elite Eight this year, and he has routinely brought in great recruiting classes. There is no reason to anticipate that the initiative will suffer a setback.

On the other hand, Duke was in a good position to overcome a weaker NC State squad and advance to the Final Four, but they were totally overpowered in the second half. That will not sit well with supporters, who will view it as a squandered opportunity.
