Breaking News: Just In Auburn Tigers Are In Talk To Sign Another Top Experienced Player

JP Pegues signs a formal contract with Auburn, and Bruce Pearl discusses the signing of the Furman transfer.
JP Pegues, a transfer point guard from Furman, was formally signed by Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers without any delay.

Pegues made his commitment to Auburn on Friday at 11 a.m. and had already signed a contract hours before Auburn made the official announcement of his addition just after 9 p.m.
After three seasons at Furman, where he averaged 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in his junior year, Pegues transferred to Auburn.

The 6-foot-2 Nashville native hit 36% from 3-point range and 42% from the field in the 2023–24 campaign. One of his 15 games with the Paladins last season when he scored 20 or more points was against Western Carolina, where Pegues had a season-high 35 points.

“JP has won,” Pearl declared. “He is a terrific basketball shooter and a scoring point guard. He is a three-level scorer who can both lead and defend. After speaking with a number of outstanding SoCon coaches, they all agreed that he was the top player in their division this year.

This previous year, Pegues was selected for the first team of the SoCon. The year before, Pegues led Furman to its first conference championship since 1980 and was voted the SoCon men’s basketball championship’s Most Outstanding Player.

Pegues’s signing comes after Tre Donaldson and Aden Holloway, Auburn’s starting point guards for the 2023–24 campaign, declared their plans to use the transfer portal.

For those who have transferred to Auburn, such as Johni Broome, Wendell Green Jr., Denver Jones, and Zep Jasper, “we have shown a great ability to get into the high levels of mid-major basketball,” Pearl remarked. “The staff and associate head coach Steven Pearl performed a fantastic job assessing talent through the transfer portal. This is a fantastic starting point for our roster makeover.
