Zac Swanson, a former defensive lineman for Texas, has decided where to attend college next.

AUSTIN – Over the past few weeks, the Texas Longhorns have lost a number of players to the NCAA Transfer Portal, most of them were on the defensive end of the court.

Although the secondary and linebacker rooms have lost more well-known players like Terrance Brooks and Kenrick Blackshire, respectively, there was also a major loss up front when defensive lineman Zach Swanson entered the portal shortly before the Orange-White Spring Game.

Swanson has now relocated to his own state and made a commitment to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday.

After Prince Dorbah, Troy Omeire, J’Mond Tapp, and Swanson, Arizona State has now seen four Longhorns transfer since 2023.

Swanson, a highly-touted prospect from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, was ranked No. 374 overall and No. 48 among defensive linemen in the 247Sports Composite rankings for the 2022 class.

He committed a few months after receiving an offer from Texas in early 2021; he picked the Longhorns over fifteen other schools, including Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida State, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, and Utah.

After receiving a redshirt in 2022, Swanson participated in the season’s opening game against Louisiana-Monroe, making a solo tackle, as well as the matchup with UTSA, totaling 17 snaps. He made just one snap appearance in the 2023 season opening against Rice.

In addition to not creating much of a stir during his pivotal third spring, Texas’s aggressive transfer portal recruiting raised the stakes for Zac Swanson.

But now, in Tempe, where the Sun Devils are prepared to begin their inaugural season in the redesigned Big 12 this autumn, he gets a second opportunity and a chance to impress.
