BREAKING: Auburn Tigers football Lands Four-Star Safety Davion Jones over college football playoff contenders.

The Auburn Tigers football are continuing to make major moves on the recruiting trail as they compete against some of college football’s top programs for one of the nation’s best young defensive backs. Four-star safety Davion Jones has emerged as a priority target for Auburn, but the Tigers are facing intense competition from several powerhouse schools hoping to secure his commitment.

A recent report from Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons revealed that Auburn has officially made Jones’ top five schools list. Joining the Tigers in the race are College Football Playoff contenders Georgia Bulldogs football and Indiana Hoosiers football, along with SEC rivals South Carolina Gamecocks football and LSU Tigers football. The competition highlights just how highly regarded the talented defensive back has become nationally.

Jones, who is originally from Cornelius, North Carolina, has seen his recruitment gain significant momentum in recent months. Programs across the country have taken notice of his athleticism, instincts, and ability to make plays in the secondary. Auburn’s coaching staff has prioritized building a strong relationship with the standout safety, and that effort appears to be paying off as the Tigers remain firmly in contention.

According to Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, Auburn is currently locked in a close battle with South Carolina for the lead in Jones’ recruitment. The Gamecocks presently hold a slight advantage with a projected 36.4 percent chance of landing the four-star defender. Auburn follows behind at 18.5 percent, keeping the Tigers well within striking distance as the recruiting process continues.

Interestingly, Clemson Tigers football was also viewed as a strong contender earlier in the process and even carried a 21 percent projection from Rivals. Despite that, Clemson did not ultimately make Jones’ final five schools, opening the door further for Auburn and the remaining programs.

One major reason Auburn remains near the top of Jones’ list is the connection he has built with Tigers co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Tim Banks. Their relationship dates back to Banks’ previous tenure with the Tennessee Volunteers football, where he served in a similar coaching role. That familiarity and trust have helped Auburn position itself as a serious contender for the talented defensive back.

Jones is considered one of the premier prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. According to Rivals’ Industry Rankings, he is listed as the No. 11 safety nationally in his class. He is also ranked among the top overall players in the region, further emphasizing the importance of his recruitment for every school involved.

The recruiting process is set to intensify in the coming weeks as Jones begins a busy schedule of official visits. He starts his tour with a trip to Indiana this weekend before heading to Clemson and Georgia. Auburn’s opportunity to make a lasting impression will come on June 5 when Jones visits the Plains. The Tigers hope that visit, combined with their strong relationship-building efforts, can eventually help them win one of the most competitive recruiting battles in the country.
