Caleb Wilson, the standout freshman and leading scorer for the North Carolina Tar Heels, has officially announced that he will enter the 2026 NBA Draft, choosing to forgo his remaining college eligibility.
Wilson, who averaged an impressive 19.8 points per game during the 2025–26 season, emerged as one of the most dynamic young talents in college basketball. His scoring ability, offensive versatility, and consistent production made him the focal point of the Tar Heels’ attack throughout the year.

Even though his season was cut short after he missed the final nine games due to hand and thumb injuries, Wilson’s impact had already been firmly established. Before his injury setback, he played at an elite level and consistently delivered strong performances against top ACC competition, helping solidify his reputation as one of the conference’s premier players.
His excellence over the course of the season earned him significant national recognition. Wilson was named to the First Team All-ACC, highlighting him as one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In addition, he received Second Team All-American honors, further cementing his status among the top players in the entire country.
Wilson’s decision to declare for the NBA Draft comes as little surprise to many observers, as his draft stock had been steadily rising throughout the season. NBA scouts have been impressed by his scoring instincts, athletic ability, and potential to develop into a high-level professional contributor. Despite the injury that ended his college campaign early, his overall body of work was strong enough to position him as a likely early-round selection.
Beyond his on-court production, Wilson also became a fan favorite in Chapel Hill, quickly earning admiration from the Tar Heel faithful for his energy, competitiveness, and ability to take over games when needed. His departure marks a significant moment for the program, as UNC will now look to replace one of its most productive offensive players heading into the next season.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Wilson’s jersey is expected to be honored in the rafters of the Dean Smith Center, an accolade reserved for players who leave a lasting legacy within the program. This honor reflects not only his statistical achievements but also his impact on the culture and success of North Carolina basketball during his time on campus.
As Wilson transitions to the professional level, he leaves behind a memorable single-season legacy at UNC, defined by elite scoring, national recognition, and a lasting impression on Tar Heel fans.
