The Auburn Tigers have officially landed their first transfer addition of the offseason, securing a major frontcourt upgrade with the signing of former Santa Clara big man Bukky Oboye. The move was confirmed on Friday and represents an important early step for Auburn’s roster rebuild under head coach Steven Pearl.
Oboye, a towering 7-foot-1 center, brings immediate size and rim protection to a Tigers team that is looking to reshape its interior presence heading into the next season. Last year, Auburn’s tallest regular rotation player measured 6-foot-10, making the addition of a true 7-footer a significant shift in roster construction. Even more, Oboye joins another recent addition in French center Narcisse Ngoy, meaning Auburn is now expected to feature multiple players standing at or above seven feet in the rotation.
Head coach Steven Pearl expressed strong enthusiasm about the signing, praising Oboye’s rare physical profile and potential impact on both ends of the court. He highlighted the center’s athleticism, describing him as an explosive runner and leaper with the ability to alter shots at the rim and finish plays above the basket. According to Pearl, Oboye’s combination of size and mobility makes him a unique prospect who can influence games defensively while also developing offensively.
On the court, Oboye is coming off a breakout season with the Santa Clara Broncos, where he established himself as a key contributor. He started 34 games and averaged 7.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per contest, showing steady production throughout the year. His ability to protect the rim stood out most, as he consistently provided interior defense and altered opposing shots.
During the season, Oboye reached double figures in scoring 11 times and delivered one of his best performances with a career-high 22 points against Nevada. He also showed consistency against top competition, averaging 9.0 points and 5.3 rebounds across three games against Gonzaga, demonstrating he could compete against elite programs.
Santa Clara’s season concluded with an NCAA Tournament appearance, where they fell to the Kentucky Wildcats in the first round. In that game, Oboye was limited to 17 minutes due to foul trouble but still contributed six points, two rebounds, and a block, offering glimpses of his impact even in a restricted role.
Before his breakout campaign, Oboye took a developmental path, redshirting his freshman year before gradually earning a rotation spot as a redshirt freshman during the 2024–25 season. Over his time at Santa Clara, he appeared in 61 games and posted career averages of 5.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, along with 50 total blocks — 40 of which came during his most recent breakout season, highlighting his rapid improvement as a defensive presence.
Now heading to Auburn, Oboye brings two years of remaining eligibility and significant upside as a developing interior force. His growth trajectory suggests he is still evolving, and Auburn’s coaching staff believes he has room to expand his offensive game while already providing immediate value as a rim protector and rebounder.
