Auburn Lands Tennessee Offensive Tackle Rance Brown Over Kentucky
The Auburn Tigers football added another important piece to its future recruiting plans after securing a commitment from offensive tackle Rance Brown, who selected Auburn over the Kentucky Wildcats football and several other programs.

Brown, a highly regarded 2027 offensive line prospect, announced his decision on Monday after months of recruiting attention from multiple schools across the country. Kentucky had emerged as one of the primary contenders in his recruitment and hoped to add him to its growing 2027 class, but Auburn ultimately won the battle for his pledge.
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound lineman is originally from Brentwood, Tennessee, and is viewed as a player with strong long-term potential at the Power Four level. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brown is currently listed as the No. 1,112 overall prospect in the nation. He is also ranked as the No. 86 offensive tackle in the 2027 recruiting cycle and the No. 41 overall player in the state of Tennessee.
Kentucky entered the race for Brown relatively late compared to some other programs, extending an offer to him in late March. Despite the timing, the Wildcats quickly became a serious contender and built momentum in his recruitment. However, Auburn’s consistent push and relationship-building efforts ultimately proved enough to secure the commitment.
Brown is still expected to visit Auburn later this week, continuing to strengthen his connection with the Tigers’ coaching staff. He also has an official visit scheduled with Kentucky on June 12, though it remains uncertain whether he will still take that trip now that he has publicly committed to Auburn.
Throughout the recruiting process, Brown attracted more than 20 scholarship offers from programs around the country. Coaches and scouts alike have been intrigued by his combination of size, physicality, and upside as an offensive lineman who could potentially develop into a major contributor at the college level.
Recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins of 247Sports described Brown as a tall and aggressive blocker who consistently creates movement at the line of scrimmage. His versatility has also become one of his most appealing traits, as evaluators believe he could eventually play either offensive tackle or guard depending on scheme fit and development.
Before transferring to Brentwood Academy for his senior season, Brown spent much of his high school career at Southside High School in Alabama, where he primarily lined up at left tackle during his junior year. His experience on the edge has helped him gain attention from schools seeking athletic offensive linemen capable of protecting the quarterback in modern offensive systems.
Scouts have especially praised Brown’s physical tools. His upper-body strength, powerful frame, and aggressive blocking style allow him to generate force against defenders at the point of attack. Additionally, his large 10.5-inch hands and flashes of athleticism in pass protection have stood out during evaluations and game film reviews.
While Brown is still considered a developmental prospect who may need time before becoming a full-time contributor at the collegiate level, Auburn clearly believes his long-term potential is worth investing in. The Tigers continue emphasizing offensive line development as they build toward the future in the SEC under head coach Alex Golesh.
For Kentucky, missing out on Brown means the search for a true offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 class will continue. Although the Wildcats already hold commitments from three offensive linemen, most are currently projected to play guard positions at the next level rather than tackle.
