The North Carolina Tar Heels have officially added another promising player to their future roster, as 6-foot-7 wing Kevin Thomas has signed with the program to play college basketball in Chapel Hill.
Thomas, who is originally from Chester, Pennsylvania, spent his high school career developing into one of the more versatile wing prospects in his class. He played under head coach David Roe at Sagemont Prep in Weston, Florida, where he became an important contributor to one of the state’s most successful basketball programs. During his time there, Thomas helped guide Sagemont Prep to three Class 1A state championships, establishing himself as a key piece of a consistently winning team.
Known for his size, athleticism, and ability to impact the game in multiple ways, Thomas enters North Carolina as a player with strong two-way potential. Standing at 6-foot-7, he offers length on the perimeter along with the versatility to defend multiple positions and contribute offensively both inside and outside the arc.
Thomas enjoyed a productive senior season at Sagemont Prep, putting together strong all-around numbers while helping lead the program once again. He averaged 15.5 points per game while also contributing 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest. His ability to contribute across several statistical categories highlighted the complete nature of his game and showed why North Carolina’s coaching staff viewed him as an attractive addition to the roster.
One of the more impressive aspects of Thomas’ offensive development was his perimeter shooting. During his senior campaign, he knocked down 60 three-pointers, demonstrating the ability to stretch the floor and create spacing offensively. In today’s college basketball landscape, wings with size who can consistently shoot from beyond the arc are highly valuable, and Thomas appears capable of fitting that mold.
Beyond scoring, Thomas also showed a willingness to defend and facilitate for teammates. His combination of steals, assists, and perimeter shooting suggests he can impact games in several different ways rather than relying solely on scoring production. That versatility could allow him to fit into multiple lineup combinations once he arrives at North Carolina.
Thomas now becomes part of an incoming recruiting class that continues to grow for the Tar Heels. He joins fellow newcomers Maximo Adams from Northridge, California, and Malloy Smith from Encino, California. Together, the trio gives North Carolina additional young talent and athleticism as the program looks toward future seasons.
The addition of Thomas also reflects the Tar Heels’ ongoing emphasis on recruiting versatile perimeter players capable of contributing on both ends of the floor. His size and skill set project well for the college level, especially in a system that values transition play, defensive intensity, and floor spacing.
