The Texas Rangers have had an uneven start to the 2026 season, but they remain firmly in the race for the American League West title. Entering the weekend, Texas holds a 25-31 record, yet the club sits only 2.5 games behind the division-leading Seattle Mariners. With plenty of baseball still left to play, the Rangers are looking to make adjustments that could help improve their standing as they prepare for a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals.

Ahead of the matchup, Texas made another organizational move by parting ways with outfielder Dairon Blanco. The decision comes during a period in which the Rangers have been reshaping parts of their roster and minor league system. Earlier in the week, the club also moved on from veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen, signaling a continued effort to evaluate talent and create opportunities elsewhere within the organization.
According to reports from baseball insider Francys Romero, the Rangers officially released Blanco, ending his brief stint with the franchise. Blanco spent the season at Triple-A but was unable to earn a promotion to the major league roster.
His release followed a difficult stretch in the minors. Through 21 games at Triple-A in 2026, Blanco appeared in 73 plate appearances and posted a .230 batting average along with a .324 on-base percentage and a .295 slugging percentage. He did not hit a home run during that span, though he collected four doubles and stole seven bases in nine attempts. Those numbers represented a significant decline from the offensive production he had shown throughout much of his minor league career.
Prior to this season, Blanco had established himself as a productive Triple-A player. Entering 2026, he owned a career .289 batting average with a .367 on-base percentage and a .447 slugging percentage at the highest minor league level. Because of that track record, many expected him to compete for a depth role. However, his struggles this year ultimately limited his opportunities and likely contributed to the Rangers’ decision.
Now a free agent, Blanco is free to sign with any organization interested in adding outfield depth and speed. His greatest asset remains his ability to impact games on the bases. Teams looking for a right-handed bench option, pinch-runner, or defensive replacement could find value in giving him another chance.
The 33-year-old has appeared exclusively for the Kansas City Royals at the major league level. Across four MLB seasons, he accumulated 257 at-bats while batting .257 with seven home runs, 59 stolen bases, and a .728 OPS. Those numbers reflect a player capable of contributing in a specialized role, particularly with his speed and athleticism.
One of Blanco’s most productive campaigns came in 2024, when he recorded 120 at-bats for Kansas City. During that season, he hit .258, launched four home runs, and stole an impressive 31 bases. His success on the basepaths helped make him a valuable complementary piece for the Royals.
Although his time with the Rangers has come to an end, Blanco’s experience and speed could attract interest from several clubs. A reunion with Kansas City is one possibility, but other organizations seeking roster depth may also consider bringing him aboard as he looks for the next chapter of his professional baseball career.
