As the Philadelphia Phillies continue their climb back into contention, the organization is expected to be active ahead of the MLB trade deadline in an effort to strengthen the roster for a postseason push. While the team has regained its footing after an uneven start to the season, there are still areas that could benefit from improvement, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

Over the past month, the Phillies have looked much more like the championship contender many expected them to be entering the season. A major reason for their turnaround has been the dominance of their starting pitching staff. The rotation has carried the club through several stretches when the offense struggled to consistently produce runs.
The return of ace pitcher Zack Wheeler has provided a significant boost. Wheeler has quickly re-established himself as one of the team’s most reliable arms, helping stabilize the rotation. However, it has been Cristopher Sánchez who has arguably stolen the spotlight. The left-hander has emerged as one of the hottest pitchers in baseball, recently setting a franchise record for the longest scoreless innings streak by a left-handed pitcher. Remarkably, Sánchez did not allow a single run throughout the entire month of May, cementing his status as a key contributor to Philadelphia’s success.
Despite the impressive work from the pitching staff, concerns remain regarding the lineup. The offense failed to perform at its usual level during May, creating a need for additional run production. If the Phillies hope to compete deep into October, adding another impact bat could become a top priority before the trade deadline arrives.
One player who has been mentioned as a potential fit is San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos. In an analysis of possible trade targets for Philadelphia, Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly highlighted Ramos as a player who could address several of the team’s offensive needs.
The Phillies have been searching for more production from right-handed hitters. While many of their left-handed sluggers have enjoyed strong starts this season, the right side of the lineup has not consistently delivered. Ramos, a right-handed hitter with proven power, could help balance the offense and provide much-needed support in the outfield.
At just 26 years old, Ramos offers more than a short-term solution. Unlike many trade deadline targets who are nearing free agency, he remains under team control for several more seasons through arbitration. That additional control would make him a valuable long-term asset, though it would likely increase the prospect cost required to acquire him.
Although Ramos is currently sidelined with a quad injury, he has continued to produce when healthy. This season, he has posted a .267 batting average, a .307 on-base percentage, and a .424 slugging percentage while adding four home runs and 20 RBIs. Those numbers may not jump off the page, but they reflect the consistency that has defined his recent development.
Power has become one of Ramos’ most attractive traits. Over the last two seasons, he has surpassed the 20-home run mark, an impressive accomplishment considering the pitcher-friendly environment at San Francisco’s home ballpark. His ability to generate power while playing in one of baseball’s toughest venues for hitters suggests there could be even more offensive upside in a different setting.
The Giants’ disappointing season could also influence their willingness to consider trade offers. If the organization decides to begin reshaping its roster and rebuilding its farm system, moving a controllable player such as Ramos could become an option. Under the leadership of Buster Posey, the front office may explore opportunities to acquire young talent and future assets.
For Philadelphia, Ramos represents an intriguing possibility. He would provide a right-handed power bat, defensive versatility in the outfield, and multiple years of team control. If the Phillies decide to aggressively pursue offensive upgrades before the trade deadline, Ramos could emerge as one of the most appealing targets available on the market.
