Auburn football continued to build momentum in its 2027 recruiting class on Monday by securing a commitment from highly regarded four-star defensive back Chance Gilbert. The talented prospect becomes one of the top additions in Auburn’s current recruiting cycle and further strengthens a class that is already gaining national attention.

Gilbert is ranked among the top 100 players in the country and is now the fourth prospect of that caliber to join Auburn’s 2027 class. His commitment gives the Tigers another major recruiting victory against some of the nation’s most successful football programs. Within Auburn’s current recruiting group, Gilbert is considered the third-highest-rated pledge, trailing only four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook and four-star linebacker Isaac McNeil.
The standout defensive back comes from Sharpsburg, Georgia, where he attends East Coweta High School. At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, Gilbert has developed a reputation as one of the most athletic defensive backs in his class. His combination of speed, quickness, and agility has made him a coveted prospect for college recruiters across the country. Much of that athletic ability can be credited to his experience in track and field, which has helped him develop the explosiveness and acceleration needed to excel on the football field.
During his sophomore season, Gilbert showcased his versatility and playmaking skills on defense. He recorded 44 total tackles while consistently making an impact in the secondary. In coverage, he broke up eight passes and intercepted two throws, demonstrating strong instincts and ball-tracking ability. He also forced a fumble, adding another highlight to an impressive season that drew attention from elite college programs nationwide.
Because of his talent and production, Gilbert received scholarship offers from many of the most recognizable names in college football. Auburn ultimately won a highly competitive recruiting battle that included programs such as Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Oregon. With nearly every major program pursuing him, Gilbert had no shortage of opportunities when deciding where to continue his football career.
Despite the intense competition for his commitment, Auburn was able to separate itself from the field. Gilbert was persuaded by the vision and direction presented by head coach Alex Golesh and the Tigers’ coaching staff. Their recruiting efforts, combined with the program’s future plans, convinced the talented defensive back that Auburn was the right place for him to develop both as a player and as a student-athlete.
Recruiting analysts also hold Gilbert in very high regard. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is currently rated as the No. 56 overall prospect in the nation for the 2027 recruiting class. He is also ranked as the No. 8 safety in the country and the No. 8 overall prospect from the state of Georgia, one of the nation’s richest sources of football talent.
By landing Gilbert’s commitment, Auburn adds another elite prospect to its growing 2027 recruiting class while sending a strong message that the Tigers can compete with the nation’s top programs for premier talent.
