Former MLB Slugger Asks Mike Trout to Don Pinstripes
Is Mike Trout going to wear pinstripes? Todd Frazier, the former third baseman for the New York Yankees, co-hosts “Foul Territory,” where Trout was a recent guest. Todd Frazier begged Trout to play for an East Coast team before his career ends.
In an episode of Foul Territory airing on April 19, Frazier stated, “I need you over at Yankee Stadium before you’re done.” Given that Philly is just down the block, I know it would be pleasant for you. In any case, I’ll accept it. All I need from the East Coast is you. That’s it. It’s not necessary for you to speak; I’m only informing you. Simply save it in your memory for a few years.
Over the course of his 11-year MLB career, Frazier, who played for the Yankees in 2017, didn’t stop there. I must say, man, that I need you to be on the East Coast before your time is out. For me, at least two years. Two years on the East Coast is what I need. The Yankees would be fantastic.
“You realize that I’ve never heard that from anyone else but you?” Trout replied to Frazier in jest. Trout and Frazier are both native to South Jersey; Trout grew up in Millville, while Frazier was raised in Toms River. Right now, Trout is developing a golf course close to his New Jersey roots.
Growing Up, Mike Trout Was Inspired by Yankees Legend Derek Jeter Trout has frequently mentioned how much he enjoyed playing with Yankee legend Derek Jeter at the 2014 All-Star Game and how Jeter was his favorite player as a child.
When Trout signed a 12-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Angels in 2019, he reportedly mentioned, “something — obviously not totally, but something in the back of my mind,” which was a reference to Jeter’s practice of wearing one uniform out of loyalty to one team for the entirety of his career, something Trout has done thus far despite the Angels making the playoffs just once (in 2014) in his 14-year career.
In a 2023 column for the New York Post, MLB insider Jon Heyman previously stated that, should Trout ever be dealt from the Angels, “people believe the hometown Phillies and Yankees might be of interest.” With seven years and about $250 million left on his contract, which will pay him until his age-38 season, the center fielder entered the 2024 campaign.
Feeling well, Trout leads MLB in home runs.
Trout has battled injuries recently and hasn’t looked like the MVP-caliber player he once was. His last almost complete season (134 games played) occurred in 2019. With five stolen bases through April, Trout now has the most in a season since 2019. He also leads all of Major League Baseball in home runs with 10.
Trout stated, “I know when I’m out there, I can put up numbers,” in an interview with The Athletic on April 26. “Just being consistent is the most important thing. I can outscore anyone if I’m in a good position at the plate, healthy, and feeling terrific.
By his high career standards, Trout’s batting average of.230 and on-base percentage of.325 are still low. With a 10–16 start, the Angels are currently fourth in the American League West.
