Breaking: Just In The Vancouver Canucks Officially Set To Cut Ties With Veteran Goalie Thatcher Demko

The Vancouver Canucks figure to be one of the most active teams on the NHL trade market this offseason, but sometimes adding means you have to subtract as well.

After locking up standout free agent signing Kevin Lankinen to a long-term contract extension in February, subtraction, at least at the goalie position, is starting to look more likely than not.

Vancouver Canucks are shaping up to be a major player on the offseason trade market, and goaltending is one area that could see some notable changes.

With Kevin Lankinen secured on a long-term deal, the Canucks now have a bit of a logjam in net. Thatcher Demko, when healthy, has been one of the better goaltenders in the league, but his injury history and high trade value could prompt Vancouver to explore moving him to address other roster needs especially with Lankinen now in the fold as a viable 1A or 1B option.

Thatcher Demko on his Daily Faceoff trade targets list is no small signal. When a name like that shows up this early in the offseason rumor mill, especially from someone as connected as Seravalli, it typically means there’s at least some fire behind the smoke.
