Canadiens Trade Logan Mailloux to Blues for Forward Zachary Bolduc
The Montreal Canadiens have made a notable roster move, trading defenseman Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for promising forward Zachary Bolduc. The deal, confirmed Tuesday, sends a two-time AHL All-Star blueliner to St. Louis while Montreal acquires a talented young forward to bolster their offensive depth.
Mailloux, 21, was a first-round pick (31st overall) by Montreal in the 2021 NHL Draft and has developed into one of the Canadiens’ top defensive prospects. He posted an impressive 47 points (14 goals, 33 assists) in 72 games with the Laval Rocket during the 2024–25 season, earning his second consecutive AHL All-Star nod. Known for his offensive instincts and booming shot from the point, Mailloux had been on the cusp of a full-time NHL role.
In return, Montreal receives Zachary Bolduc, a 21-year-old forward and former 17th overall pick in the 2021 draft by the Blues. Bolduc split time between St. Louis and their AHL affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds, tallying 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in 36 NHL games last season. The speedy center/winger is praised for his high-end offensive skill set and could push for a permanent role in Montreal’s bottom-six with top-six upside long-term.
Canadiens GM Kent Hughes commented on the trade, stating:
“Zachary Bolduc brings us dynamic offensive potential and fits the age profile of our core. While it’s tough to part with a player like Logan, this is a move that addresses our organizational needs.”
For St. Louis, Mailloux adds a power-play threat and much-needed puck-moving depth on the right side of the defense, potentially slotting in behind Justin Faulk or Colton Parayko.
The trade marks a rare prospect-for-prospect swap involving two recent first-rounders and reflects the evolving priorities of both franchises as they reshape their rosters for the future.
