With the WNBA’s midseason roster cut-down deadline looming on July 13, teams are quickly assessing veteran talent available on the market  and DeWanna Bonner has emerged as one of the most intriguing options.

Bonner, a two-time WNBA champion and five-time All-Star, was recently waived by the Indiana Fever after a brief nine-game stint in which she averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. Despite the modest numbers, her playoff experience and leadership could prove invaluable to teams gearing up for the postseason push.

According to Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports, Bonner is expected to draw “swift interest” from multiple teams on a veteran minimum contract worth \$78,831 for the remainder of the season.

While speculation initially pointed to a potential reunion with the Phoenix Mercury  the franchise where Bonner spent the first decade of her WNBA career and won two championships  Costabile reports that “discussions around signing the two‑time WNBA champion include multiple teams.”

At 36 years old, Bonner still brings a defensive edge, scoring versatility, and playoff pedigree. Her presence in the locker room could serve as a stabilizing force for younger rosters or fringe contenders hoping to deepen their rotation.

The WNBA’s July 13 roster cut deadline could accelerate Bonner’s next landing spot, with several playoff hopefuls reportedly monitoring her status closely. As the market tightens, Bonner’s experience and resume could make her one of the most impactful late-season additions of the year.
