Breaking: J-Dub signs five-year multimillion contract extension with OKC Thunder

In a major move signaling their continued investment in the future, the Oklahoma City Thunder have signed rising star Jalen “J-Dub” Williams to a five-year, multimillion-dollar contract extension, the team confirmed on Wednesday. The deal solidifies Williams’ status as a cornerstone of the Thunder’s promising young core.

Drafted 12th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Santa Clara, Williams quickly emerged as one of the most impactful rookies in his class. His smooth offensive game, defensive versatility, and unselfish style made him an instant fit in head coach Mark Daigneault’s system. Now heading into his third season, the Thunder are locking in one of their most dynamic two-way players before he becomes eligible for restricted free agency.

According to league sources, the extension is expected to be worth over\$150 million, with incentives that could push the total even higher. The contract will begin in the 2026–27 season, keeping Williams in Oklahoma City through at least 2031.

At just 23 years old, J-Dub averaged 19.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game last season, shooting an efficient 54% from the field and 43% from three. His ability to handle the ball, create his own shot, and defend multiple positions has made him one of the most complete young wings in the NBA.

Thunder GM Sam Presti emphasized the importance of continuity and internal development when announcing the deal:

> “Jalen represents everything we value in this organization — toughness, character, versatility, and commitment to team success. We’re thrilled he’ll continue to grow with us.”

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and now Jalen Williams under long-term contracts, the Thunder have positioned themselves as a Western Conference powerhouse for years to come. As the franchise eyes a deep playoff run, keeping J-Dub in OKC marks another huge step forward in their journey back to contention.
