Latest Rangers News: Texas Rangers Coach Skip Schumaker Officially Announced The Addition Of Another Top Experienced Superstar To Active Roster

The Texas Rangers made a notable bullpen move on Tuesday by officially reinstating a veteran right-handed reliever from the 15-day injured list. In a corresponding roster adjustment, the club sent fellow right-hander Gavin Collyer down to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martin’s return gives Texas an experienced arm back in the bullpen after he spent more than a month sidelined with a right shoulder impingement. The veteran pitcher had originally been placed on the injured list on April 15 after experiencing discomfort in his throwing shoulder. Before the injury interrupted his season, Martin had appeared in eight games for the Rangers and posted a 1-1 record with a 7.11 ERA.

Although his early-season numbers were not ideal, the Rangers are hopeful the nearly 40-year-old reliever can stabilize the bullpen moving forward. Martin has built a strong reputation throughout his lengthy major league career as a dependable late-inning option capable of limiting walks and generating weak contact. His experience is also expected to provide leadership for a Texas pitching staff that has dealt with injuries and inconsistency during the season.

Martin, who will celebrate his 40th birthday next month, has enjoyed a long journey through Major League Baseball. Since making his debut in 2014, he has pitched for seven different organizations and appeared in 426 career games, all in relief. Across those appearances, he owns a 19-25 career record with a solid 3.39 ERA and 16 saves.

The veteran reliever is currently in his second stint with the Rangers organization. He previously pitched for Texas from 2018 through 2019 before continuing his career elsewhere. One of the highlights of Martin’s career came in 2021 when he helped the Atlanta Braves capture a World Series championship. His postseason experience and veteran presence are viewed as valuable assets for the Rangers as they attempt to strengthen their relief corps.

Meanwhile, Collyer heads back to Triple-A after making a promising impression during his first taste of major league action. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut earlier this season on April 15 and quickly earned opportunities out of the bullpen.

In 14 relief appearances with Texas, Collyer posted a respectable 2.84 ERA while recording a 1-0 record. Over 12 2/3 innings, he struck out 10 batters but also issued eight walks, showing both encouraging potential and areas that still need refinement. Despite being optioned to Round Rock, the young right-hander demonstrated enough ability to suggest he could return to the majors later this season if needed.

For now, the Rangers are banking on Martin’s veteran experience and healthier arm to help solidify the bullpen while Collyer continues his development in the minor leagues.
