Hampton comes from a family with strong basketball ties. He is the younger brother of RJ Hampton, a former first-round NBA Draft selection who gained national attention as a top recruit before beginning his professional career. Before making his commitment, Hampton explored several options and took visits to other programs, including Nebraska and NC State.
