Boston Red Sox Announced Marcelo Mayer Update During Athletics Series

The Boston Red Sox provided an encouraging injury update on infielder Marcelo Mayer during their series against the Athletics.

According to the club, Mayer’s rehabilitation is progressing well. He has advanced to tee work, soft-toss hitting, and defensive fielding drills as he continues recovering from the injury that has kept him out since June 25. While the update shows steady progress, the Red Sox have not announced a timetable for his return to Major League action.

Before being sidelined, the 23-year-old rookie appeared in 70 games, batting .220 with 3 home runs, 22 RBIs, 45 hits, 19 runs scored, and 3 stolen bases.

There is also growing speculation that, once healthy, Mayer could spend some time at Triple-A Worcester to continue his development before rejoining Boston’s big-league roster, though the organization has not confirmed that plan.
