The relationship between Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and former teammate A.J. Brown has attracted plenty of attention since Brown was traded to the New England Patriots in June 2026.

Brown acknowledged after the trade that he and Hurts were “not as close as we once were,” but stressed that there was no bad blood between them. He said the two had simply grown apart over time and that he still had plenty of love and respect for his former quarterback.

Hurts has now offered his own perspective, and his response was characteristically measured.

In a recent GQ interview, Hurts was asked whether he agreed with Brown’s assessment that their relationship had changed. His answer was brief: “Clearly.”

Rather than focusing on the personal side of the situation, Hurts emphasized the importance of the Eagles’ collective mission. He said that football requires everyone to pursue the same objective and that his focus has always been on helping the team succeed.

Hurts also made it clear that nothing can erase what he and Brown accomplished together in Philadelphia. Brown spent four seasons with the Eagles after arriving in 2022, recording 339 receptions, 5,034 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns while helping Philadelphia win two NFC championships and Super Bowl LVII.

The Eagles officially traded Brown to New England on June 1 for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Interestingly, the two players eventually crossed paths again during the Eagles’ joint practice with the Patriots in August. Hurts avoided turning the reunion into a major storyline, while Brown acknowledged that they had not spoken since the trade before eventually reconnecting.

The biggest takeaway is that neither player appears interested in publicly attacking the other. Brown has repeatedly said there is no bad blood, while Hurts has chosen to acknowledge the change in their relationship without dwelling on it.

Now, both are moving forward. Brown enters a new chapter as a major target for the Patriots, while Hurts prepares to lead a reworked Eagles offense featuring DeVonta Smith and other new weapons.

Whatever happened between Hurts and Brown personally, their shared history in Philadelphia remains significant—and both seem determined to leave that chapter in the past while concentrating on their new teams.
