Texans Draft Cade Stover, a TE at Ohio State After the Eagles Trade
By selecting tight end Cade Stover with the 123rd choice of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans were able to reconnect C.J. Stroud with his former Ohio State teammate.

Houston — On the third day of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans added a new weapon to their arsenal for quarterback C.J. Stroud. In order to choose Ohio State tight end Cade Stover, the Texans traded up with the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday morning. The Texans gave up a 2025 fifth-round pick and the 127th pick to the Eagles in return.

Stover will get to rejoin his college quarterback by signing with the Texans. The Buckeyes finished the 2022 college season with an 11-2 record under Stover and Stroud’s leadership. Stover burst onto the spotlight, recording a then-career-best 406 yards on 36 catches and five touchdowns while playing next to Stroud.

2021 was Stover’s season before he took over as Ohio State’s starting quarterback; he had 76 yards and five receptions.

“Playing with C.J. once more is such an honor,” Stover remarked. “The Texans have something unique. I am giddy with anticipation. I’m simply prepared to help however I can.”

Nothing in my life has gone perfectly; I’ve been tugged in a lot of different directions. I think I’ve been through the mill. I’m prepared to leave.”

After spending five seasons as a student at Ohio State, Stover became a highly sought-after prospect going into the draft. He played linebacker his freshman year before switching to tight end. Stover broke the school record most points scored in a basketball game by scoring 1,715 points during his high school career.
