Briann January Returns to Indiana Fever as Assistant Coach
The Indiana Fever welcomed back a franchise legend, Briann January, as an assistant coach, the team announced on April 2. January, who previously played for the Fever, expressed her excitement about rejoining the organization where she spent a significant portion of her playing career.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to return to the city and the team that drafted me,” January stated. “Indiana became my second home during my career, and I was fortunate to compete and win here for ten years. Now, I’m eager to get to work and do everything I can to help bring another championship to the Fever with this talented group of players and coaches.”
January has a deep history with the Fever, having played an essential role in the franchise’s success during her tenure. She was a key player for Indiana from 2009 to 2017, helping the team capture its first WNBA championship in 2012. Known for her defensive prowess and leadership on the court, January became one of the most respected players in the league during her playing days.
After her time in Indiana, January continued her playing career with multiple teams, including the Phoenix Mercury, Connecticut Sun, and Seattle Storm, before retiring as a player in 2022. Following her retirement, she transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach at the collegiate level with the Arizona State women’s basketball program. Now, she returns to the WNBA, bringing her wealth of knowledge and experience back to the franchise where she made a name for herself.
