Eagles vs. Commanders Prediction
The Philadelphia Eagles are my pick to beat the Washington Commanders in their 2026 Week 1 matchup on September 13 at Lincoln Financial Field. The game is scheduled for
My prediction: Eagles 27, Commanders 20
Why I favor Philadelphia:
Home-field advantage: Philadelphia opens the season at home, which should give Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense an early boost.
Jalen Hurts: Hurts remains the biggest difference-maker in this matchup. His ability to create plays with both his arm and legs makes Washington’s defensive assignment difficult.
Philadelphia’s offensive weapons: The Eagles enter the season with a dangerous group around Hurts, including Saquon Barkley and newly added receiver Hollywood Brown.
Washington’s secondary takes a major hit: Commanders cornerback Trey Amos is expected to miss Week 1 after being placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury. That could make life more difficult against Philadelphia’s passing attack.

Jayden Daniels is the wildcard: Washington has a talented young quarterback capable of extending plays and creating explosive runs. If Daniels protects the football, the Commanders can absolutely make this a close game.
Jalen Hurts vs. Washington’s defense will be the matchup I watch most closely. If Philadelphia can establish Barkley early, Washington could be forced to bring extra defenders into the box, opening opportunities for Hurts and the Eagles’ receivers.
Washington also has reason for confidence. The Commanders beat Philadelphia 24-17 in their 2025 regular-season finale, and the Commanders have split their last four meetings with the Eagles.
Washington Commanders
Still, the combination of Philadelphia’s home advantage, offensive firepower and Washington’s secondary injury gives the Eagles the edge.
