Ex-Michigan State DT Raequan Williams Getting Tryout Opportunity with Detroit Lions

Former Michigan State DT Raequan Williams Trying Out for the Detroit Lions

Raequan Williams, a standout defensive tackle from Michigan State, could be getting another shot in the NFL. After playing in seven games over two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Williams has been out of the league since 2021—but now, he’s aiming for a comeback with the Detroit Lions.

According to reporter Colton Pouncy, Williams is included on the Lions’ offseason tryout list.

While it’s unclear whether the Lions extended the invitation or if Williams reached out himself, it’s encouraging to see him attempting a return after three years away from active rosters.

Undrafted in 2020, Williams had an impressive college career in East Lansing, amassing 160 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, eight pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. His senior year was particularly strong, with 48 tackles, eight TFLs, and a career-high five sacks.

The Lions could use added depth on the defensive line. While Williams isn’t expected to make an immediate impact, he could be a valuable addition to the practice squad with the potential to work his way up to the active roster.

Given his popularity at Michigan State, a return to the NFL—especially in Detroit—would be a feel-good story with plenty of local support.

Seeing Raequan Williams in Honolulu blue again would be a special moment for Spartans fans.
