BREAKING: Shocking, “I don’t want to play for Spurs again” Spurs to Officially cut ties with another veteran star

Chris Paul’s run in San Antonio was certainly productive, even if it didn’t result in a playoff berth. Playing all 82 games at age 40 while averaging 7.4 assists and shooting nearly 38% from deep is a testament to both his durability and value as a floor general and mentor.

The Spurs, now building around De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and possibly Dylan Harper, are clearly pivoting toward a younger, more dynamic backcourt. That leaves Paul as an odd man out, despite his successful mentorship of Victor Wembanyama and his influence in a locker room that dealt with significant adversity, including Gregg Popovich’s health scare.

The reported interest from the Dallas Mavericks makes sense. With Kyrie Irving expected to miss time due to an ACL tear, Paul would be a logical short-term starter or stabilizing presence next to Luka Dončić. His playmaking and leadership could help keep Dallas competitive early in the season, and he wouldn’t be asked to carry the offensive load.

If Paul signs with the Mavericks, it would mark his seventh NBA team, further cementing his legacy as one of the most respected journeyman stars of his era. Whether he stays healthy and impactful enough for a final title run remains to be seen but he’ll definitely have suitors.
