Pat McAfee Confirmed Indianapolis Colts Wants Colts to Sign College World Series Star

Gage Wood’s No-Hitter Wows the Nation And Draws Unexpected NFL Praise from Pat McAfee

Arkansas Razorbacks  Gage Wood became a household name during the College World Series after delivering one of the most electrifying performances in college football history  a no-hitter on the sport’s biggest stage.

Throwing a no-hitter is already a monumental feat at any level of baseball, but doing it under the white-hot lights of the College World Series elevates it to legendary status. For context, Major League Baseball  which has been played for nearly two centuries  has only seen 326 no-hitters in its entire history. And in the World Series itself, they’re even rarer, with only a handful ever recorded. That puts Wood’s dominance into truly elite territory.

But while scouts and analysts buzzed about what the performance could mean for Wood’s MLB draft stock, former NFL punter and sports media star Pat McAfee took things in a more unexpected  and hilarious direction.

During an episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the former Colts punter jokingly suggested that the Indianapolis Colts should sign Gage Wood, referencing the pitcher’s poise and rocket of an arm. While clearly made in jest, McAfee’s comment got fans wondering: could a pitcher actually play football?

Realistically, Wood is undersized for an NFL quarterback, and there’s no indication he has ever taken a competitive football snap. But in theory, a pitcher with elite velocity and command might be able to translate some of those mechanics into football arm strength  at least in a novelty or emergency role. Of course, the idea is wildly farfetched, but that’s part of what makes McAfee’s platform so engaging: blending wild hypotheticals with genuine admiration.

In truth, Gage Wood’s future is almost certainly on the baseball diamond, where his no-hitter already etched his name into the sport’s history books. But in a week full of headlines, the suggestion  however tongue-in-cheek  that he could have a future in the NFL shows just how captivating his performance was.

Whether it’s MLB scouts or Pat McAfee himself, everyone seems to agree Gage Wood is a name to remember.
