While those numbers may not stand out, they represent only a small sample size and do not fully capture his overall potential.
Prior to his time with Milwaukee, Berroa spent the 2024 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he received more consistent playing time at the major league level. Over the course of 28 games, he collected seven hits, including one double, and recorded six stolen bases. He finished that stretch with a .189 batting average. Although his offensive production was modest, his ability to create opportunities on the bases stood out as a valuable asset.
The Phillies’ decision to acquire Berroa suggests a focus on adding versatility and speed to their system. Even though he has yet to establish himself as a consistent hitter in the majors, his quickness and defensive capabilities could make him a useful piece, especially in late-game situations where speed can be a difference-maker.
By assigning him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the Phillies are giving Berroa an opportunity to continue developing his skills while remaining ready for a potential call-up. This move allows the organization to evaluate his progress more closely and determine how he might fit into their plans at the big-league level.
