Breaking: Sunderland Officially Confirmed the Departure of Another Top Talented Superstar

Ahmed Abdullahi Completes Permanent Move from Sunderland to Eyupspor.

Sunderland have confirmed that forward Ahmed Abdullahi has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish Super Lig club Eyupspor, bringing his short spell at the Stadium of Light to an end.

The 22-year-old striker joined the Black Cats on transfer deadline day in August 2024 after the club secured his signature on a four-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee. At the time, Abdullahi was regarded as an exciting young prospect with significant potential, having impressed with his goalscoring exploits in Belgium.

However, despite arriving with high expectations, the Nigerian forward was unable to establish himself in Sunderland’s first-team squad. Throughout his time with the club, Abdullahi did not make a single competitive appearance under head coach Régis Le Bris. Fierce competition for places in the attacking department and other factors limited his opportunities to break into the senior team.

Before making the move to England, Abdullahi enjoyed a highly productive spell with Gent’s development side in Belgium. He scored an impressive 21 goals in just 28 appearances in the Belgian third division, attracting attention from clubs across Europe. His consistent finishing ability and promising performances convinced Sunderland to invest in the young striker as part of their long-term plans.

Unfortunately, his career at Wearside never developed as many supporters had hoped. While he featured in training and worked to adapt to English football, he was unable to earn a competitive debut for the Black Cats. As Sunderland continued to reshape their squad under Le Bris, both the player and the club agreed that a fresh opportunity elsewhere would be the best solution.

Eyupspor, who compete in Turkey’s top flight, have now secured Abdullahi’s services on a permanent basis. The move offers the forward the chance to restart his career in a new environment where he will be aiming to earn regular first-team football and rediscover the form that made him one of Belgium’s most promising young attackers.

For Sunderland, the transfer marks another step in the club’s ongoing squad evolution as they continue building a team capable of competing at the highest level. Although Abdullahi’s time on Wearside did not produce any competitive appearances, the club will hope he can fulfill his potential in Turkey.

Supporters are likely to wish the young striker well as he begins the next chapter of his career. At just 22 years of age, Abdullahi still has plenty of time to develop, and a move to Eyupspor could provide the platform he needs to showcase his talent on a consistent basis.

Sunderland have thanked Abdullahi for his professionalism during his time at the club and wished him every success in his future career as he embarks on a new challenge in the Turkish Super Lig.
