Why Sunderland Are Targeting £17m Timothy Weah to Partner Brian Brobbey

Under Régis Le Bris, Sunderland enjoyed an outstanding first season back in England’s top flight. Rather than simply fighting to avoid relegation, the club finished seventh and earned a place in the Europa League. Their achievement represented a remarkable campaign, but maintaining that level of performance will require further investment.

His ability to carry the ball, attack defenders and create opportunities could provide Le Bris with another dimension. Sunderland lacked consistent creativity last season, and adding a player capable of producing chances from wide areas could significantly improve their attacking threat.
During his time in France, Weah demonstrated his energy and attacking quality. He was involved in creating seven major chances in Ligue 1 and won 51 percent of his duels, highlighting his willingness to contribute both offensively and physically.
A Potential Partnership
A partnership between Weah and Brobbey could give Sunderland a more balanced attack. While Brobbey provides strength and a physical presence in central areas, Weah could stretch opposing defences from the wing and create additional space for the striker.
Sunderland’s attacking numbers suggest that more creativity is required if they are to compete successfully in the Premier League and Europe. Bringing in an experienced attacker like Weah could therefore be an important step.
The 25-year-old has already played for several major clubs and has experience in different European leagues. Although his career has not always developed as expected, his performances with Marseille showed why he remains highly regarded.
