Sunderland Complete Free Transfer for Jamaica International Atlanta Primus
Sunderland Women have strengthened their squad ahead of the new campaign by completing the signing of Jamaican international forward Atlanta Primus on a free transfer.
The Lady Black Cats officially confirmed the deal through a statement published on the club’s website, adding another experienced player to their growing list of summer arrivals.

Primus makes the move to Wearside after departing Southampton earlier this summer following the expiration of her contract. The 29-year-old attacker arrives with significant experience in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 (WSL2), where she has established herself as a consistent performer over the past several seasons.
Throughout the last six years, Primus has featured regularly in England’s second tier while representing London City Lionesses, Charlton Athletic, and Southampton. Her time in the division has seen her develop into a versatile forward capable of contributing both as a goalscorer and a creator.
Last season, Primus was an ever-present figure in Southampton’s WSL2 campaign, appearing in every league match. She finished the season with four goals and three assists, highlighting her ability to make an impact in the final third while providing valuable experience to her side.
Her impressive club career has also been matched on the international stage. Primus has represented Jamaica 23 times, scoring once for the Reggae Girlz. One of the biggest highlights of her international career came when she was selected in Jamaica’s squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand. Competing on football’s biggest stage further underlined her quality and experience, qualities Sunderland will hope she brings to the squad this season.
Speaking after completing her move, Primus expressed her excitement about finally becoming a Sunderland player.
She revealed that joining the club had been something she had been looking forward to for some time and said she is eager to begin working with her new teammates on the training ground before the season gets underway.
Primus also praised the positive direction the club is heading, pointing to the backing provided by the Bay Collective as an exciting factor in Sunderland’s future ambitions. She believes the investment and support surrounding the club will help the team continue progressing and competing at a higher level in the years ahead.
The signing represents another important addition for Sunderland Women as they continue to strengthen their squad during a busy summer transfer window. Primus becomes the club’s sixth new arrival, reflecting the club’s determination to build a competitive team capable of challenging throughout the upcoming campaign.
With her blend of Championship experience, international pedigree, and proven attacking ability, Primus is expected to provide valuable depth and leadership in Sunderland’s forward line. Supporters will be hopeful that her experience and quality can help the Lady Black Cats achieve their ambitions this season as preparations continue for the start of the new league campaign.
