Rangers Activate MacKenzie Gore From Paternity List in Latest Roster Move
The Texas Rangers have made another change to their pitching staff, activating left-handed starter MacKenzie Gore from the paternity list on Saturday.
Gore returns to the Rangers’ active roster after briefly stepping away from the team to be with his family. To create room for the veteran left-hander, Texas optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Peoples to Triple-A Round Rock.
The roster move comes just a few days after Gore was placed on the paternity list. The Rangers made that decision on Wednesday, the same day they activated fellow left-hander Cody Bradford for his season debut.
With Gore now back in the fold, Texas regains an important member of its starting rotation as the club continues through the regular season.
The 27-year-old pitcher is in his first season with the Rangers and has experienced an inconsistent campaign so far. Through 24 starts, Gore has posted a 6-9 record with a 4.55 earned-run average.
While those numbers have not matched the expectations surrounding him, Gore remains an experienced major league starter with a significant amount of time at the highest level. His return provides Texas with another established arm capable of handling a substantial workload in the rotation.
Gore has spent five seasons in the majors, beginning his career with the San Diego Padres in 2022 before joining the Washington Nationals. He pitched for Washington from 2023 through 2025 before making his way to Texas this season.
Across 129 major league appearances, including 126 starts, Gore has compiled a 32-50 record and a 4.26 ERA.
Despite the ups and downs throughout his career, Gore demonstrated his ability to perform at an elite level during his time with Washington. He earned an All-Star selection last season, highlighting the talent that made him one of the more highly regarded young pitchers in baseball.
The Rangers will now hope that his return can provide stability to their pitching staff as they navigate the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Peoples heads back to the minor leagues after making his major league debut earlier this summer. The 25-year-old right-hander received his first opportunity in the majors on July 4 and quickly showed signs that he could contribute at the highest level.
Peoples appeared in 12 games for Texas, all in relief, and finished his brief major league stint with a 2.19 ERA. Although he did not record a win, his overall performance gave the Rangers a reason to view him as a potential option for the future.
His return to Triple-A Round Rock should allow him to continue developing and gaining valuable experience while remaining within the organization’s pitching depth.
For Texas, the latest transaction is primarily about restoring Gore to the roster while creating space through Peoples’ option. The move gives the Rangers an experienced starter back in their rotation while sending a promising young reliever to the minors.
Gore will now look to settle back into his regular routine following his time away from the team. The Rangers, meanwhile, will be hoping their left-hander can rediscover the form that helped earn him an All-Star selection and become an important piece of their pitching staff down the stretch.
