Hull City Reportedly Agrees to Sign Lucas Gourna-Douath From Red Bull Salzburg
Hull City appear to be continuing their ambitious recruitment drive ahead of their return to the Premier League, with reports suggesting the club have reached an agreement to sign midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
The 23-year-old French midfielder has reportedly emerged as another important target for the Tigers as they prepare for life back in England’s top division. According to reports, Hull have agreed terms for a permanent transfer and Gourna-Douath could soon be on his way to England to complete the final stages of the move.

Gourna-Douath began his professional career with Saint-Etienne in France before making a high-profile transfer to Red Bull Salzburg in 2022. His move to the Austrian club was reported to be worth around €15 million (£12.8 million), making him the most expensive player ever signed in Austrian football at the time.
Since joining Salzburg, Gourna-Douath has gained considerable experience at both domestic and European levels. He has made around 95 appearances for the Austrian giants, while also spending time away from the club on loan.
During his time under contract with Salzburg, the midfielder has had loan spells with FC Liefering, Italian giants Roma and French side Le Havre. Those experiences have helped him develop his game and exposed him to different tactical systems and competitive environments.
The reported Hull move would represent another major step in his career, particularly with the Tigers preparing to compete in the Premier League.
Gourna-Douath primarily operates as a defensive midfielder, where his physical strength, ability to win possession and understanding of the game can make him particularly effective. However, he is also capable of playing a more advanced box-to-box role when required.
His versatility could be valuable for Hull as they look to build a squad capable of competing against some of the strongest teams in English football. The Frenchman also brings European experience to the club, having featured in the UEFA Champions League during his career.
Reports indicate that Gourna-Douath is expected to travel to England for a medical as Hull work toward completing the transfer. If everything goes according to plan, he could become one of the latest additions to Sergej Jakirovic’s squad.
The potential signing is part of what has already been a busy summer for Hull City. The Tigers are continuing to strengthen their squad ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester United on August 22.
Hull are also reportedly working on a possible deal to bring Joe Gelhardt back from Leeds United, while the club are understood to be making progress in their pursuit of Rayo Vallecano defender Nobel Mendy.
However, not every transfer target has been straightforward. Hull’s pursuit of Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has reportedly encountered fresh complications, leaving uncertainty over whether the Jamaica international will eventually make the move.
With the new Premier League season approaching rapidly, Hull are clearly determined to strengthen in several positions. If the reported agreement for Gourna-Douath is completed, his combination of youth, top-flight experience and Champions League exposure could make him an important addition to the Tigers’ midfield.
