While there has been some growing concern among fans about Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats due to what some view as underwhelming recruiting results, the situation isn’t as negative as it may seem for Big Blue Nation. One major boost has been the return of Braydon Hawthorne following his redshirt year in Lexington, which has helped energize the program. Even better for Kentucky, he won’t be the only Hawthorne on campus, as his younger brother, Zyon Hawthorne, has also committed to join the Wildcats.
Zyon, a 6-foot-2 guard from Huntington Prep, selected Kentucky over several other programs including La Salle, Wichita State, Arkansas State, and Bethune-Cookman. He will arrive as a true freshman and immediately join his brother in Kentucky’s backcourt rotation.
Scouting reports describe Zyon as a natural floor leader who doesn’t rely heavily on dribbling to dictate the offense. He plays with a smooth, controlled pace and has a strong understanding of game rhythm. One of his standout offensive tools is his floater, and he is also capable of knocking down shots even when tightly defended. On the defensive end, he shows strong instincts, often reading passing lanes effectively and turning steals into fast-break opportunities. Overall, he is viewed as a subtle but impactful player who can change the momentum of games without always dominating the ball.
With his addition, Kentucky continues to shape its roster for the upcoming season. Zyon Hawthorne joins a group that already includes Malachi Moreno, Kam Williams, Trent Noah, Reece Potter, Zoom Diallo, Alex Wilkins, and Mason Williams. In total, the Wildcats now have nine of their fifteen roster spots filled as they continue building toward the new campaign.
