Sunderland Complete Signing of Belgian International Kassandra Missipo on Two-Year Deal

Sunderland Women have strengthened their squad with the signing of Belgian international midfielder Kassandra Missipo, who has agreed to a two-year contract with the Lady Black Cats.

The club officially confirmed the arrival of the experienced midfielder through its website, adding another quality player to the squad ahead of the new campaign. Missipo, 28, arrives at Sunderland after spending the past three seasons with Italian Serie A Women side US Sassuolo.

Her time in Italy gave her valuable experience at a high level of European women’s football. During the 2025/26 campaign, Missipo made 22 appearances in the Italian top flight, contributing two goals and one assist. Her performances demonstrated her ability to compete consistently at the highest level while providing experience and composure in midfield.

Missipo’s move to Sunderland represents another important chapter in a career that has already taken her across several European leagues. Before moving to Italy, the Belgian midfielder played for some of the leading clubs in her home country, including KAA Gent and RSC Anderlecht.

She also gained international experience during a spell with Swiss club FC Basel. Those experiences have helped Missipo develop into a seasoned midfielder with knowledge of different playing styles and football cultures.

At international level, Missipo has been a regular member of the Belgium women’s national team. She has earned 78 caps for her country and has scored three international goals. Her extensive experience with the Red Flames is expected to bring additional leadership and quality to Sunderland’s midfield.

Following the completion of her transfer, Missipo expressed her delight at becoming a Sunderland player and revealed that she believes the move is the right next step in her career.

“I am very proud to be here and to sign for Sunderland,” Missipo said. “I have played in Switzerland and Italy, and those experiences were important steps in my career. Now, this step is about passion, quality and continuing to move in the right direction.”

The midfielder also spoke positively about joining a new group of teammates and outlined her excitement about the season ahead.

“I believe it is the right move for me. I am really looking forward to working with this new group, and I am excited about what’s to come this season,” she added.

Missipo’s arrival represents Sunderland’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window, highlighting the club’s determination to strengthen its squad before the start of the new season.

With experience in Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and on the international stage, Missipo brings a wealth of knowledge to Sunderland. Her ability to operate in midfield, combined with her international pedigree, could prove valuable as the Lady Black Cats prepare for the challenges ahead.

Sunderland will now hope that Missipo can quickly settle into her new surroundings and make a significant contribution to the team’s ambitions during the upcoming campaign.
