Good News: Son Of NFL Standout Officially Commits To Kansas State football

Kansas State football continued to strengthen its future recruiting foundation by securing a commitment from promising running back Correll Buckhalter Jr., who officially joined the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting class on Sunday. The announcement was made through Buckhalter’s social media accounts and gives Kansas State another notable addition to what is shaping up to be an impressive group of future prospects.

Buckhalter comes from a football family with a strong pedigree. His father, Correll Buckhalter Sr., enjoyed a successful football career that began at the University of Nebraska, where he was part of the Cornhuskers’ 1997 national championship team. After his college success, Buckhalter Sr. spent several years in the NFL, earning recognition primarily during his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, his son is looking to create his own legacy at the collegiate level with the Wildcats.

The younger Buckhalter currently plays for Liberty Christian School in Texas. Standing 5-foot-10 and weighing approximately 185 pounds, he has developed into one of the more intriguing running back prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. His combination of speed, vision, and versatility has attracted attention from numerous college programs across the country.

Before making his decision, Buckhalter considered several major programs. Schools such as SMU, Arkansas, Iowa, and UCLA were all involved in his recruitment. However, after taking an official visit to Manhattan during the weekend, he ultimately decided that Kansas State was the best fit for his future. The visit appears to have played a significant role in helping the Wildcats secure his commitment over a competitive list of suitors.

Buckhalter’s production on the field demonstrates why he became such a sought-after recruit. During his junior season, he showcased his ability to consistently generate big plays while carrying a significant workload for his team. He rushed for 1,288 yards and scored 19 touchdowns, averaging an impressive six yards every time he carried the football. His impact extended beyond the running game as well, as he accumulated 2,141 all-purpose yards throughout the season. Those numbers highlight his effectiveness as both a runner and an all-around offensive weapon.

Recruiting services have taken notice of his potential. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Buckhalter is currently rated as a three-star prospect. He is ranked No. 844 overall nationally and sits as the No. 63 running back in the country for the 2027 class. While rankings can change over time, his current evaluation reflects a player with the talent and upside to contribute at the Power Four level.

Buckhalter becomes the first running back commitment in Kansas State’s 2027 recruiting class, giving the Wildcats an important building block for the future. His addition further strengthens a recruiting group that has already generated excitement among fans and coaches alike.

As of Sunday afternoon, Kansas State’s 2027 class was ranked No. 36 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. Within the Big 12 Conference, the Wildcats trailed Texas Tech, Houston, West Virginia, and Kansas. With plenty of time remaining before signing day, however, Buckhalter’s commitment could help build momentum as Kansas State continues pursuing additional prospects to elevate its class ranking even higher.
