Leeds United Step Up Pursuit of 28-Year-Old Striker as Daniel Farke Targets More Firepower
Leeds United are reportedly accelerating their efforts to sign another striker as manager Daniel Farke looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Whites are keen to reduce their dependence on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who enjoyed an impressive first campaign at Elland Road. The experienced forward scored 14 league goals and played an important role in helping Leeds maintain their Premier League status.
However, Leeds discovered the importance of having another reliable goalscorer when Calvert-Lewin was unable to find the net consistently. The club often lacked a forward capable of stepping up and taking responsibility in front of goal, making the addition of another centre-forward one of Farke’s priorities.
One player attracting significant attention is Burnley forward Zian Flemming. The 28-year-old Dutchman is reportedly among Leeds United’s leading targets, with the club now understood to be stepping up its pursuit of the versatile attacker.
Flemming impressed despite Burnley’s difficult Premier League campaign last season. He finished as the club’s leading scorer in the competition, registering 11 goals in 29 appearances, including 11 goals in 21 starts. His ability to produce goals for a struggling team has made him an attractive option for clubs looking for proven Premier League quality.
Burnley’s relegation has increased speculation that Flemming could leave the club this summer, with the Clarets expected to receive offers for the forward. Leeds are believed to be monitoring the situation closely as they search for a striker capable of immediately competing for a starting position.
Flemming’s versatility is another factor that could make him particularly appealing to Farke. Although primarily capable of playing as a forward, the Dutchman can also operate in a deeper attacking role as a number 10.
That flexibility would give Farke several tactical options. He could use Flemming as competition for Calvert-Lewin, deploy both players together or rely on the Dutchman to lead the attack whenever the former Everton striker is unavailable.
Leeds are also working on strengthening other areas of the squad this summer. The club continues to consider another goalkeeper following the arrival of James Trafford, while an attacking midfielder remains another important target.
Defensive reinforcements are also expected to be considered, particularly at centre-back, with Sebastiaan Bornauw reportedly set to leave for Hamburg. That could leave another vacancy that the club will need to address before the transfer window closes.
Despite those requirements, adding another striker remains one of Leeds’ most pressing priorities. The club wants greater competition throughout the squad and does not want its attacking ambitions to depend heavily on the fitness and form of one player.
Flemming appears to fit the profile Leeds are searching for. His Premier League experience, goalscoring record and ability to play multiple attacking positions could make him a valuable addition to Farke’s squad.
