Jamier Brown’s situation is becoming one of the more intriguing storylines in the 2027 recruiting cycle. His early commitment to Ohio State was a huge win for Brian Hartline and the Buckeyes, especially given Brown’s status as a top-tier wide receiver with elite speed, route-running polish, and advanced ball skills for his age. Naturally, OSU fans were thrilled — Hartline has a strong track record of developing wideouts, and Brown fits that mold perfectly.
However, Brown’s continued visits and openness about enjoying the recruiting process have raised eyebrows. While he told On3 that he’s “locked in” with Ohio State, that comment is starting to sound more like a placeholder than a hard commitment. Programs around the country are clearly not backing off, and his spring visit slate is evidence that there’s real competition still brewing.
This doesn’t mean Ohio State should panic — top recruits often take visits even after committing — but it does mean the Buckeyes will need to stay proactive in maintaining their relationship with Brown. If he keeps visiting other top programs (especially SEC or ACC schools with strong NIL backing), things could get more tense in Columbus as his recruitment drags on.
Ultimately, how Ohio State handles Brown’s recruitment from here — keeping consistent contact, reinforcing relationships with his family, and continuing to highlight his development path — will determine whether they can hold on to him.
