Proposed Blockbuster Trade Has Bruins Landing $31 Million Star Forward Jason Robertson
Following a disappointing season that saw them fall near the bottom of the NHL standings, the Boston Bruins are determined to bounce back in 2025-26. While the team missed the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, management remains confident that a turnaround is coming — and bold roster moves could be part of the plan.
A proposed trade circulating online has sparked attention, suggesting that Boston could pursue Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson in a major deal. The idea, submitted via PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, would see the Bruins acquire the high-scoring winger in exchange for a package including a top prospect, an NHL-ready forward, and two valuable draft picks.
Proposed Trade Breakdown:
To Bruins:
- Jason Robertson
To Stars:
- Fabian Lysell
- Morgan Geekie
- 2025 first-round pick (7th overall)
- 2026 first-round pick
This hypothetical trade would be a massive move for Boston. Robertson is currently in the final season of a four-year, $31 million contract and is expected to command a sizable extension. The 24-year-old was a major contributor for Dallas last season, scoring 35 goals and adding 45 assists for 80 points across all 82 games. His career-best season came in 2022-23 when he tallied 109 points.
If acquired, Robertson would immediately fill a first-line role in Boston, providing a much-needed offensive boost. However, the cost would be significant. The Bruins would part with two first-round draft picks — including the No. 7 overall selection in 2025 — as well as Lysell, a former top prospect, and forward Morgan Geekie.
Lysell, selected in the first round of the 2021 draft, appeared in 12 NHL games this season, posting three points (one goal, two assists). Though still developing, he has shown flashes of potential and could help fill the offensive gap left by a departing Robertson in Dallas.
Geekie, a restricted free agent, had a solid 2024-25 season, registering 33 goals and 24 assists for 57 points in 77 games. He would bring proven middle-six production to the Stars’ forward group and help offset the loss of Robertson’s offense.
Trade Rumors Surrounding Robertson
While Robertson is a cornerstone of the Stars’ lineup, his name has surfaced in trade rumors following Dallas’ early playoff exit. NHL insider Jeff Marek recently floated the possibility that the Stars might explore trading Robertson to regain draft assets and create cap space. Marek named the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks as possible landing spots and hinted that if Robertson is dealt, Toronto’s Mitch Marner could become a target for Dallas.
Bruins Eyeing a Quick Rebuild
Despite a down year, the Bruins remain optimistic. CEO Charlie Jacobs recently expressed confidence that with a healthy roster and some offseason additions, Boston will return to playoff contention by 2026. After an eight-year playoff streak ended this past season, the team is eager to get back on track — and acquiring a star like Robertson would certainly speed up that process.
