Amid swirling trade rumors surrounding wide receiver Treylon Burks, Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan stepped up this week to address the young receiver’s performance and potential role in the upcoming season. The second-year coach’s comments may not have definitively silenced speculation, but they did shed light on how the Titans currently view Burks a former first-round pick who has yet to fully live up to expectations.
Burks, drafted 18th overall in 2022 out of Arkansas, was originally seen as the heir apparent to A.J. Brown after the Titans traded their star wideout to the Eagles. However, Burks’ NFL journey has been bumpy. Between injuries and inconsistent production, the 6’2” receiver has struggled to carve out a consistent role in Tennessee’s offense. He finished the 2023 season with just 221 receiving yards and no touchdowns in 11 games.
With the offseason additions of Calvin Ridley and the steady presence of DeAndre Hopkins, rumors have grown that the Titans could be open to moving on from Burks — possibly in exchange for draft capital or to bolster other areas of need, such as the secondary or offensive line depth.
When asked about Burks’ standing on the team, Coach Callahan said, “Treylon is still very much a part of what we’re building. His talent hasn’t gone anywhere. What we’re focused on now is putting him in better positions to succeed and helping him stay healthy.”* Callahan emphasized that the wideout is still young and developing, and the team is not giving up on him.
He went on to note that Burks has shown “strong effort and professionalism” in offseason workouts and is working closely with the new offensive staff to refine his route-running and increase his versatility.
Despite the public vote of confidence, the timing of Callahan’s comments raises eyebrows, especially as reports surface that multiple teams have inquired about Burks’ availability. If the Titans do receive an enticing offer, they may find it hard to say no, particularly with a new regime eager to reshape the roster in its own image.
For now, Burks remains a Titan, and Callahan insists the team is focused on helping him contribute. But as training camp approaches, the uncertainty surrounding Treylon Burks is far from over.
